Seems that spiders are more intelligent that we thought, call them picky or biased, but they sure have a grasp for quality and who gets in to the index.

Content, site structure and link popularity are the new metrics to enhance site synergy and coherence for achieving a higher relevance score. Once you have search engine trust, less is more (you can rank on a title tag alone).

I couldn’t agree more in the fact that relevance is the standard by which all things are now judged in the world of search. Increasing authority, adding relevant contents, getting backlinks from sites on the same subject, using h1 and h2 tags in source code, developing one way back links, using blogs for getting traffic etc. plays a major role.

The key factor here is that they already are an authority, so whatever they write in context, has the potential to rank in the top 10.

Whereas a site without trust and authority has every ounce of link weight targeting their main phrases. This is why it is so important to increase relevance and authority versus just links and sparsely related content.

While search engines do prefer specialists they still tend to rank authorities (like newspapers) very high for almost every term you can come up with.

Eric, just had to add to that one. Using the resource strategy for ranking in my feeling is not going anywhere anytime soon.
