The first 25 words will suffice for a relevance signal. Although it is up to you, but search engines tend to assess content above the fold as more important for editorial weight.

This has definitely been one of the most helpful articles I’ve read. I’m currently in the process of doing a link audit on our website, especially as we’re trying to build up our MI Dealer Ratings section and others.
My question is does this same process address Wordpress posts? And does the keyword always have to be the very first word in the body of the Wordpress posting?

Rather than just one school of thought (On page Vs. Off page) I find doing as much as you can with both will yield the best results. For every website that things one is weighted more than the other, there are ten who treat both on and off page factors with equal weight.

There seems to be a lot of disagreement about the relative importance of back links and internal links. I do have a suspicion, though, that back links are gaining importance as the search engines try to respond to the growing importance of social media and the so-called influencers.
