SEO STRATEGY FOR THE

to Determine Keyword Relevance
How
to Determine which
Pages of your Site have the Strongest Keyword
Relevance in Search Engines.
Here is a useful search method if you want to determine which of your
indexed pages in a particular search engine are
categorized for relevance by that search engine.
In layman's terms, how to find which pages from
your website are associated with specific keywords.
The true value of this is type of inquiry is the ability to increase
or decrease keywords on particular pages in order
to get them to rank for the terms you specify.
If you are attempting to make each page unique
( which is the goal) this
will allow you to select the most appropriate page for a particular
keyword or key phrase and avoid duplicate content
by changing the pages content with least significance.
For example if this credit
card processing company wanted to determine
which of their pages has the most relevance for
the term credit cards, this is how they could perform
a search and find out.
Type the keyword or key
phrase, followed by your url in quotes in Google or your favorite search
engine.
The search term at the top of the listing will be the most relevant
page. If more than one result emerges, it will
show you the relevance of the relationship between
that search term / keyword and the page. In addition
you may see pages that link to the url located
under the first few results which is absolutely
natural. This also allows you to determine who
is linking to you with those keywords, so essentially
it is a 2-in-1 tip for this entry.
How
to Research your Competition with Yahoo
Site Explorer Analyzing your competition
| How they rank and why!
Have
you ever wondered how a competitor is ranking
so well for specific search terms? Wouldn't it
be nice to research your competition online to
determine how to possibly implement a similar online
marketing strategy or counter strategy? With this
SEO tip, you can see behind the scenes of the back
link charade and arrive at how true search engine
rankings are established - through quality
inbound links and effective on page optimization..
Displayed
rankings in search engines only represent the proverbial
tip of the iceberg, if you really want to find the
root of the ranking for any URL, you will need a
back link analyzer tool or some online tool that
lets you determine the number of back links a page
has pointing to it, or what the anchor text is from
those links (this is an example
of anchor text). Here is one method you can
use to research the competitiveness of specific
keywords using Yahoo
Site Explorer.
1. Use your favorite search engine using
a competitive search term for your industry. Look
at the first naturally occurring commercial website
(not wikipedia for example which often ranks highly
in organic searches). Visit
the site and copy the URL (ctrl-c) .
2. Next, open yahoo
site explorer a new browser window and paste
or type the url (ctrl-c) your
want to research into the search query. Click
the explore URL button and proceed to the next
step.
Pages refers to the number of pages
listed in Yahoo. Inlinks refers to how many back
links are pointed at that page.
3. Click the inlinks tab to
view the other website's linking to the page your
researching.
For a non competitive term 15-20 inbound
links can create a top 10 result. For a competitive
term several hundred to thousands of quality inbound
links may be required from a combination of fresh
links and more seasoned authority website's over
time, to produce and sustain a top 10 ranking.
Look at almost any top 10 search queries
ranging in the top 10 of 100,000,000 pages and you
will see an abundance of quality links to peruse
and sift as an invaluable marketing resource. By
using this method, you can gauge the extent of the
authority of the links, the power of the anchor text
and the volume of links required in order to successfully
rank within the top 10 of a given keyword.
For example, if you performed a search
on Google for "Search Engine Optimization", and researched
the top competitors for that page, you would see
over 1750 links pointing to one page to achieve those
rankings. If you wanted to rank competitively on
that page, then you would need 1600-1,700 links with
specific anchor text to appear organically in the
top 10 for that search term.
Additionally, you can use this as
a resource to hunt links within a similar industry,
write blogs from some of the the authority sites,
link to some of the same potential directories or
approach webmasters for reciprocal or three way link
exchanges (you link to me and another site links
to you, etc.).
Next week for our next tip, we will address additional keyword
research strategies that allow you to
determine if a keyword is worth pursuing for traffic
or monetization, but in the meantime
this SEO Strategy is a bare bones minimum SEO tactic
for analyzing your competition and the keywords they
have targeted in search engines.
How
to create a sitemap using Google Webmaster
Tools and ensure all of
your pages indexed!
Google started beta
testing a new way for webmasters to expedite
the submission and spidering process which has
now been widely accepted as the new method for
MSN and Yahoo as well. It is through using an
xml sitemap short for (extensible markup language).
If you are a web developer or are savvy enough
to have access to your web server via ftp, then
you can do it yourself by following the Google

the steps and create a sitemap. After your done, upload
the sitemap.xml file to your html root folder, from
the main webmaster tools section, select sitemaps,
right-click and save link as google
html confirmation file ,place it in
the root folder along with your sitemap, go back to
sitemaps section in Google Webmaster tools and confirm
the sitemap. It's a straightforward process,
but in case your uncertain, about the steps or stages
involved. We include this process as part of every
SEO PACKAGE.
Today's SEO
TIP#2
Are you using your title,
description and keyword tags to their full potential?
One of the
most important factors in on-page website optimization
in SEO is the Title Tag, Description and Keyword
tags in your HTML source code. Proper use to
the title tag in conjunction with properly placed
keyword combinations and key phrases usage have
profound impact on search engine placement ( we
will get to that later).
The Description tag defines how the search engines list your website, but most
importantly they also serve as anchors for keywords and can directly affect search
engine position in conjunction with other techniques. Effective use of methodical
correlation between repetitive words or sentences in the title, description and
body copy (the text on the page) affect the search engine algorithm and this
is what affects where your site is placed.
Keywords used in the Description Tag add qualifying votes to your sites credibility
and theme. It is about maintaining a proper balance of selective word choice
such as qualifying terms that differentiate your site from others in the same
category. i.e.
"Professional and Affordable Website Design" vs. "We
build Website's" is an example of using
qualifying text to create distinction and uniqueness
to your website pages.
You should not try to optimize one page with more
than 3 keywords or key phrase combinations. Doing
so only diffuses the content and focus of your
pages, making it harder for humans and spiders to
sift through the data and assess the theme of your
web page. Use commas to differentiate data or new
topics. (company name, solution based description,
location) as well as using headlines or header tags
to summarize data. One vital seo tip is to make sure
that the description tag contains all of the keywords
used in the title in some format. It doesn't have
to be exact, but it's really about creating the right
word density of keywords and key-phrases for the
Title, Description and on page content..
An SEO Specialist understands the profound impact
of well-written and focused description, meta tags
and on-page content. This gem of information combined
with effective off-page website submissions and
website promotion is what produces TOP 10 PLACEMENT if
managed properly.
Today's SEO TIP#3
How important is my website's
navigation and link architecture?
Links play an important role
in search engine optimization. Specifically
internal links, the internal links within your
do more than serve as a way for visitors to move
about. Those same
links also dramatically impact a very important
factor in Seo know as anchor
text (more on that in the next tip).
Let's address link architecture first. The navigation
within your website needs to have interconnected links
to all of your pages in order to have
your website spidered properly by search engines. Every
page in your website should be no more than two clicks
away from the homepage. In laymen's term it means that
if there are orphaned files with no inbound or outbound
links, those pages will not be included in the search
engines index (which is a snapshot of the content in
your website). The number of pages that you have indexed
in the major search engines, the better, granted that
they all provide valuable optimized content.
As behavior suggests people main use search engines
for one of two reasons, (1) a resource tool to gather
information (personal, professional) or for
purchasing products or services. Make sure your website
is ready when consumers shift from information gatherers
into hunters that your
website is optimized properly
to increase your online traffic.
Rambunctious HTML code
and broken links only discourage web spiders and
robots (which scour the web for data) from indexing
your site. If they cannot access word count, word
density and other discerning facets of your website,.
it's like reading half the book of your product
or service. To ensure that your pages are spider-friendly
here are a few SEO
Tools you can use to assess your website's
html code. The more of your pages that are
indexed with proper keywords and key phrases,
the more likely your chances of achieving a
high search engine ranking. The Major engines
assess individual web pages not just the entire
site. It is quite possible to rank very low
on one search engine and be at the top of another.
This delicate balance of preparing each page
for a specific function is what SEO professionals
do when they optimize your site. Sure your could
do it your self, but at what cost? Better to
leave these things to the professionals so
you can focus on your core business.
Today's SEO TIP#4
What is anchor
text? and how should I use it?
Since we are discussing links
another tip within the link category is to create strong
inbound site links. Links are used as anchor text,
when you use less links on a page it creates a type
of pressure that is released when it finds a link.
The spiders are hungry for information, and the more
you can index pages in your site, the stronger the
impact of your keywords weight in that engine. 10 pages
are better than one, so one effective way to ensure
that the spiders reach every page on your site is
to use each link effectively.
In addition, the text in the link adds
ranking relevance to wherever the link points at.
The more quality back links a page receives (like
votes) the more popular it is in respectively ranks
within search engines. So, if you are building web
pages. Instead of wasting valuable anchor text by
using the typical "Click Here" use keywords in links
where applicable instead such as Free
Seo Tools, <<< this
is an example of effective use of anchor text. The
fewer links linking out to other sites from a page,
the higher the page rank on that page. In addition
if a high page rank site has fewer links, each one
has more effect when used for building back links.
.
Today's SEO TIP#5
Does using the alt-tags for images affect
my rankings?
Alternative Text (Alt-tags) provide the ability to
get the full use of the browsers capability to mutually
share information with individuals or search engine
spiders. Every image without an ALT tag is a missed
opportunity to add weight to your search engine placement
results. When a search engine looks at your site
it tends to ignore images. It cannot gather the text
from the image or determine what the context is about.
This is why the alt- tag is important to convey information
to your target audience as well as PDA's or other
mobile devices which may not have image capabilities
enabled.This is
an example of how to use an alt-tag to convey information.
When you place your mouse over arrows image, text
should be displayed to the browser.
If your website is a travel agency that provides
treks through the mountains and you had 12 images
on you web page. That is 12 more opportunities to
impress upon the search engine specifically what
your site is about. You might use the following in
the alt tag of an image "Guided Tour of the
Andes Mountains ", "Trek through Mount
Everest" for example, to create informative
crucial information about your site.
